Many people, both members and those who are curious, have questions about the nature and basics of Lions. Below are some of the common questions:
- Who can belong to Hazel Dell Lions?
Any adult (18 or older) who is interested in community service may become a Lion. - How do I become a Lion?
Membership is by invitation. If you are interested, attend a meeting, attend an Open House, go to the Lions International Web site, or let a Lion of your acquaintance know you would like more information. - Do I have to attend lots of meetings?
Members are encouraged to attend the twice monthly meetings, but we have many who are not able to do so. The most important thing is to work on projects and fund raisers. - What does it cost?
Hazel Dell membership is $60.00 per year. That covers club, region (MD19), and Lions International dues. - What do I get out of it?
You get a sense of accomplishment, community awareness, fun, fellowship, and leadership training/opportunities. - Where do your funds come from?
We have several fund raisers; the main one is our fireworks booth, but we also have a couple pancake breakfasts and other small events. - And where does the money go?
Every dollar raised from the community goes back to the community as food baskets, eyeglasses, hearing aids, scholarships, and much more. - What is Lions International?
Lions Clubs International (LCI) is a global network of clubs and members. The main goals of LCI are international communication, and the care and treatment of treatable cases of blindness and deafness. There has also been a push to treat diabetes. LCI also provides funds and resources to areas which have suffered recent natural disasters.
